Homemade BBQ Sauce
sweet, smokey and spicy

As a health conscious small family. We are very aware of the hidden nasties in store bought ultra-processed bottled BBQ sauces. I make it my job to keep us eating as simple and clean as physically possible. So homemade is best option in our house for sauces too.
Ingredients
- 1 tin of tomatoes (sieved and skinned)
- 1/2 diced white onion (add if you like a chunky sauce)
- 1/3 apple cider vinagar
- 1/8 cup molasses
- 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/8 tsp onion powder
- 1/8 tsp garlic powder
- pinch of chili powder
- pinch of allspice powder
- 4 tsp paprika powder
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Combine wet ingredients, in a heavy bottom pan. Add diced onion so it has time to soften
- Heat on medium heat and Stir in brown sugar, stir until the brown sugar is well combined into the sauce
- Add Spices, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, allspice, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper and salt
- Simmer and Reduce, bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let the sauce to reduce for about 20 minutes, or enough until sauce becomes thick. Do not cover it with a lid
- Once thickened add the butter and mix until combined
- Cool and Store, pour the sauce into a glass bottle with a lid. Let is chill in the fridge before serving for best results
